Urinetown
Our Fall Senior Musical
(Grades 9-12)

  • Eligibility: High school students currently enrolled in acting, vocal, or dance classes through PYT.

  • Participation fee and additional fees: $185/month (billed from September through January); costume fees will be billed separately, but parents will have the opportunity to participate in fundraisers to keep costume costs minimal, and students will keep all costumes. An additional $25 script fee is charged by Music Theater International, but students are permitted to keep their scripts and write in them. A $25 media fee will cover the cost of professional photography, and students will receive digital links to all photography taken throughout the run.

  • Auditions: Auditions for high school students will take place on Sunday, 9/6 from 1:00-3:00 PM at PYT or on Thursday, 9/10 from 4:00-8:00 PM at PYT. Please click here to sign up for a 5-minute audition slot. Each actor will sing a brief song (approx. 1 minute) of their choice. Please choose a song that showcases your vocal strengths at this time, and allows for some acting moments. You will sing one-by-one in the room using either an instrumental track or piano accompaniment. We encourage you to make big choices and take risks! There will not be a dance call at auditions. Please arrive 10 minutes before your audition slot.

  • Callbacks: Sunday, 9/13 from 1:45-6:00 PM @ PYT. We will begin with a dance call for all actors, so please bring clothes and shoes that you can move in. You will then sing and read in the audition room - a reader will be available for you in scenes. FOR THIS AUDITION PROCESS, WE WILL NOT BE ASSIGNING ROLES FOR CALLBACKS.  Instead, please select TWO roles for which you would like to read from Urinetown. (Character descriptions and callback material will be posted by September 1st.) We would like actors to think of their authentic selves in the world of this show and select up to two (2) characters they feel they could confidently bring to life with their current level of skill and ability. IMPORTANT - your callback selections do NOT guarantee a particular role. We promise to CONSIDER you for the roles. We recommend that students spend some time prior to auditions familiarizing themselves with the show’s soundtrack so that they feel prepared for callbacks. For students who have an inflexible conflict with the callback date, please email us and we will arrange for an alternative callback date on the afternoon of Monday, 9/14.

  • Casting and Feedback: Our artistic staff will be filling out feedback forms for each student during the audition process. After casting concludes, students will have the option to receive feedback in the areas of singing, acting, and dance. We hope that this will help our students understand their strengths and where we see areas for growth. Casting will be announced via email on Friday, 9/18 at 4:00 PM.

  • Rehearsals: Sundays - 1:15-5:30 PM. Rehearsals may be extended as needed, and additional Saturday rehearsals will be called as needed, but we will work around students’ availability. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, 9/20 and run through the beginning of February. Students will have off for holiday/vacation closings. When rehearsals begin, we will ask for a list of any Saturday and Sunday conflicts that you have. Please double check school or studio calendars for any competitions, cabarets, or additional performances to which you’ve already committed. We want to make sure we make a schedule that allows for everyone’s availability. Thank you in advance!

  • Mandatory Tech/Dress Rehearsals:

    Sunday, 1/31 - Friday, 2/5
    Exact dates and times TBA (likely 1:15-9:15 Sunday; 4:30-9:30 PM weekdays)

    Tentative Performance Schedule:
    Saturday, 2/6 @ 6:00 PM
    Sunday, 2/7 @ 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM
    Monday, 2/8 @ 6:30 PM

  • Tickets: Starting this season, PYT will be moving to a system of assigned seating and online ticket purchases! Tickets range in price from $25-$35 plus applicable fees (waved for cash purchases). Online ticket reservations will open one month prior to our performances.
