PYT’s Summer Experience -
High School-Age
Registration is now open for PYT’s 2026 SUMMER EXPERIENCE, a pre-professional intensive for high school-age students! Click here to register while spots remain.
The Basics
Programming is available for students in 9th through 12th grade (as of 9/26).
The Summer Experience is specially designed with high school students’ interests and abilities in mind, creating a musical theater intensive like no other. Under the direction of industry professionals, students will be immersed in acting, vocal, and dance technique, and will partake in a professional-caliber production of Frozen. Students who wish to pursue musical theater in college or professionally will grow immeasurably in this 4-week experience.
Unlike our programming for younger students, this is not summer camp! Students will be treated as pre-professional young adults and will receive certain privileges, including an open campus for their lunch break and flexibility within the morning technique classes for students who may have work obligations. Students will be permitted to make up missed morning technique classes via our sister program, The Dance Loft, which offers a large variety of afternoon and evening class options. Rising 11th and 12th grade students will be eligible to participate in our Pre-College add-on program at a significant discount.
Programming will run from Monday, June 29th through Friday, July 24th at our beautiful theater and classroom space located in the heart of Long Beach at 75 E. Walnut Street. Students will be off on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.
Hours are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. During the second and third week of the Summer Experience, some students may be asked to stay until 5:00 PM for extended rehearsals on certain days (we will work around conflicts). Students will also have two additional Sunday rehearsals from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 12th and Sunday, July 19th in preparation for our final performances. On performance days during the last week of programming (Thursday, 7/23 and Friday, 7/24), students may start and end later in the day.
Our ScheduleThe first half of a typical day (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM) will be dedicated to working on acting technique, vocal development, musical theater dance training, and a variety of special topics designed to pique our students’ interest in the arts. High school students will train separately from younger students engaged in PYT’s Summer Camp program.
After a lunch break, the second portion of the day (12:45 to 4:00 PM) will serve as rehearsal for our full-length musical, Frozen, which will be presented at the end of the Summer Experience.
Broadway guest artists will be invited to workshop with our students throughout the summer.
Our Show
Our culminating mainstage performances of Frozen will take place on Thursday, July 23rd and Friday, July 24th in the beautifully renovated PYT Ballroom Theatre located right on our premises in the heart of Long Beach. Performances may be added on Sunday, July 26th.
Our Faculty
As you've come to expect from PYT, our faculty is comprised of top professionals from NYC's theater scene. That's what the 'P' in our name stands for! While not all of our students will choose to pursue a career in theater, we feel that all of our students deserve to graduate from our program prepared to do so if they choose. Your child's teachers are more than just theater enthusiasts--they are true, vetted professionals and will provide every student with unparalleled insight into the theatrical world. Whether your child is learning choreography from a Broadway cast member, mastering a monologue, or studying vocals with an accredited operatic coach, we are committed to the highest caliber of training!

Additional FeesExtra Fees - We aim to be completely transparent about all extra fees. There will be a $25 per student script fee charged by Music Theater International (the show licensing company), but students will be permitted to keep their scripts. Parents will be billed for costumes at the end of the summer and will be charged no more than $60 total. Students will be permitted to keep all costumes, and PYT will hold fundraisers during the summer to reduce the total charged to parents. In previous years, our fundraising committee did a tremendous job and costumes were completely free or very lost to our families! Tickets for our musical are $30 each for guests who would like to attend.
