Information about PYT’s Summer Camp - Elementary & Middle School Age
The Basics
Programming is available for students in second grade through eighth grade (as of 9/26). Students will be leveled in technique classes according to age, ability, and experience.
Camp will run from Monday, June 29th through Friday, July 24th at our beautiful theater and classroom space located in the heart of Long Beach at 75 E. Walnut Street. Students will be off on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.
Camp hours are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. During the second and third week of camp, some students may be asked to stay until 5:00 PM for extended rehearsals on certain days (we will work around conflicts). Students will also have two additional Sunday rehearsals from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 12th and Sunday, July 19th in preparation for our final performances. On performance days during the last week of camp (Thursday, 7/23 and Friday, 7/24), students may start and end later in the day. Early-care and After-care options are available throughout the summer (see below).
Our ScheduleThe first half of a typical day (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM) will be dedicated to working on acting technique, vocal development, musical theater dance training, and a variety of special topics designed to pique our students’ interest in the arts.
After a lunch break, the second portion of the day (12:45 to 4:00 PM) will serve as rehearsal for our full-length musical, Frozen, which will be presented at the end of summer camp.
Broadway guest artists will be invited to workshop with our students throughout the summer.
Our Show
Our culminating mainstage performances of Frozen will take place on Thursday, July 23rd and Friday, July 24th in the beautifully renovated PYT Ballroom Theatre located right on our premises in the heart of Long Beach.
Our Faculty
As you've come to expect from PYT, our faculty is comprised of top professionals from NYC's theater scene. That's what the 'P' in our name stands for! While not all of our students will choose to pursue a career in theater, we feel that all of our students deserve to graduate from our program prepared to do so if they choose. Your child's teachers are more than just theater enthusiasts--they are true, vetted professionals and will provide every student with unparalleled insight into the theatrical world. Whether your child is learning choreography from a Broadway cast member, mastering a monologue, or studying vocals with an accredited operatic coach, we are committed to the highest caliber of training!
Tuition
PYT continues to be one of the most affordable performing arts camp options in our area because it is our philosophy that all children deserve a high-quality education in the arts! Tuition is $2800. Add-on Options and Additional FeesLunch Option - For an additional charge of $300, students will be provided with daily lunch options (all weekdays) from local, reputable restaurants throughout the summer. Students are not required to sign up for this option and may choose to bring their own bagged lunch instead. Water and snacks will be available on the premises for purchase, as well.
Early-Care and After-Care - Early-Care (8:00 - 9:30 AM or earlier if needed) and After-Care (4:00 PM and on) are available. The cost per child is $17 per hour. Students may sign up for one to five days per week.
Extra Fees - We aim to be completely transparent about all extra fees. There will be a $25 per child script fee charged by Music Theater International (the show licensing company), but students will be permitted to keep their scripts. Parents will be billed for costumes at the end of the summer and will be charged no more than $60 total. Students will be permitted to keep all costumes, and PYT will hold fundraisers during the summer to reduce the total charged to parents. In previous years, our fundraising committee did a tremendous job and costumes were completely free or very lost to our families! Tickets for our musical are $30 each for guests who would like to attend.Signing Up
